Dr Tony Chen is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist with subspecialty fellowship training in Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Manual Small-Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) and Medical Retina. He specialises in refractive (laser) vision correction, premium cataract and lens surgery, and the management of retinal conditions including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusions.
Dr Chen graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and completed a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney. He undertook specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital and subsequently completed a comprehensive ophthalmology fellowship as Senior Registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

Dr Chen completed his specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital before undertaking a comprehensive ophthalmology fellowship as Senior Registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital.
He then completed further subspecialty fellowships in Medical Retina (Taiwan), Cataract and Refractive Surgery (Australia), and Manual Small-Incision Cataract Surgery in outreach settings including the Solomon Islands and Alice Springs. These experiences have provided him with advanced expertise in both high-volume cataract surgery and the management of complex retinal disease.
Dr Chen is actively engaged in research and academic activities, with multiple publications and conference presentations. He has also contributed to the training of future ophthalmologists through his university teaching roles.
Dr Chen takes a meticulous and evidence-based approach to patient care. He prioritises clear communication and shared decision-making, ensuring patients understand their options for vision correction and retinal treatment.
