Dr Frank Howes is a highly regarded Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract and refractive surgery, as well as corneal diseases including keratoconus. He has extensive expertise in laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK, PRK (ASLA), SMILE, ICL implantation and refractive lens exchange (clear lens exchange). He is also recognised for his leadership in surgical treatments for glaucoma.
Dr Howes completed his undergraduate medical degree in Cape Town, South Africa. After time in general practice and military medicine with the South African Defence Force, he completed ophthalmology training at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Dr Howes has extensive international experience in cataract, refractive, corneal and glaucoma surgery. He established early LASIK and refractive clinics in the UK and introduced SLT laser treatment there. In Australia, he has been a pioneer in MIGS procedures and advanced lens-based vision correction.
His work includes innovation in intraocular lens design, glaucoma drug development and laser technology. He continues to combine clinical practice with academic contributions, teaching and publishing extensively in the field of cataract and refractive surgery.
