Dr Rajan S. Patheja is a Consultant Cataract and Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon who commenced consulting at the Eye and Laser Centre in September 2024. He also holds public appointments at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the adjacent Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS).
Dr Patheja is experienced in the management of a broad range of elective and emergency ophthalmic conditions, with a strong focus on achieving optimal visual and surgical outcomes for his patients.

Dr Patheja completed his pre-vocational training on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane before undertaking specialist ophthalmology training through RANZCO. He then completed two additional years of Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and STARS, gaining advanced experience in complex retinal and cataract surgery.
He has published numerous papers in international peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals and is actively involved in mentoring and training Ophthalmology Fellows, Registrars, Residents and medical students through his public hospital appointments.
