Biography
Dr Michael Steiner is a highly experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon with over 40 years of experience in eye surgery. He has a particular interest in glaucoma, laser refractive surgery and medico-legal ophthalmology.
After graduating in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1970, Dr Steiner became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists and was appointed Honorary Secretary of the College in 1976. He served as Honorary Ophthalmic Surgeon at Bankstown and Lewisham Hospitals, where he pioneered intraocular lens implantation for cataract surgery between 1975 and 1984. He later served for many years as Chairman of the Surgical Staff at the Metropolitan Eye Hospital.

Dr Steiner has practised ophthalmology for over four decades, with extensive experience in cataract surgery, glaucoma management and laser refractive procedures. He was instrumental in introducing intraocular lens implantation at Bankstown and Lewisham Hospitals and has been performing laser vision correction in Australia since 1991.
He has held senior clinical and leadership roles within major hospitals and professional organisations, contributing significantly to ophthalmic education, governance and scientific congress organisation at State and National levels.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Steiner is widely recognised for his expertise in medico-legal ophthalmology and holds multiple accreditations as an independent medical examiner and assessor.
