Dr Ben Spencer is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Surgeon who manages a broad range of adult eye conditions, including corneal disease, glaucoma, anterior uveitis and medical retinal disease. He has a particular surgical interest in cataract and refractive correction, offering the latest intraocular lens options tailored to each patient’s visual needs.
Dr Spencer graduated as Dux of James Cook University Medical School in 2014, receiving both the Phil Summers ‘Commitment to Excellence in Medicine Award’ and the ‘Whole Time Medical Specialist Prize’. He went on to complete a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney and specialist ophthalmology training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). Dr Spencer has completed comprehensive ophthalmology training with RANZCO and further subspecialty experience in corneal disease, uveitis, glaucoma and retinal disease. He has also undertaken advanced refractive surgery training and remains actively involved in research, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and authorship in the cataract section of Yanoff and Duker’s Ophthalmology.
He is committed to education and outreach, serving as a visiting ophthalmologist to Alice Springs Hospital, where he supports ophthalmology services in remote Central Australia and mentors trainee ophthalmologists.
