Biography

Dr Angela Richards is a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with expertise in cataract surgery, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. She graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland medical program and completed a Master of Science in Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) at the University of Sydney School of Medicine.

Dr Richards undertook her ophthalmology training in Queensland through RANZCO, based at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She then moved to the United Kingdom for two years of further subspecialty training, where she was awarded a prestigious Medical Retina Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

During her time at Moorfields, she gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and medical management of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, and further advanced her skills in complex cataract surgery, particularly in patients with underlying retinal conditions. She was awarded both the Topham Scholarship and the RANZCO Travelling Scholarship in recognition of her dedication to advanced overseas training.

Dr Richards has worked across a broad range of locations including Brisbane, Townsville, the Gold Coast, Darwin, rural Australia, London and North Yorkshire, developing diverse clinical experience. She remains committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based ophthalmic care.

Dr Richards completed her ophthalmology training in Queensland at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital before undertaking a Medical Retina Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. There, she received advanced training in the management of retinal diseases and complex cataract surgery in patients with co-existing retinal pathology.

She has gained wide-ranging clinical experience across metropolitan, regional and rural centres in Australia and the United Kingdom. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Richards actively participates in and presents at local and international ophthalmology conferences, reflecting her ongoing commitment to professional development and advancement in the field.
