Dr Alan Flax is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist with special interests in refractive cataract surgery, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. He graduated in medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and later completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town.
Before specialising in ophthalmology, Dr Flax held numerous senior management positions in both public and private hospitals across South Africa and Australia. He subsequently completed specialist ophthalmology training through the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of New South Wales, based at Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland Hospitals.

Dr Flax completed his ophthalmology specialist training at Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland Hospitals under the University of New South Wales. His practice encompasses refractive cataract surgery, glaucoma management and diabetic eye disease care.
In addition to his clinical work, he has played an important role in service innovation, including the development of outreach ophthalmology programs and the implementation of tele-ophthalmology services to improve access for rural and remote patients.
